Ice Fishing Incident

Farmboy has been dying to take HY ice fishing since --well, birth really. And I finally consented. I've been before so I know how miserably cold it can be for an AZ girl born in the dead of summer. (It was pre-marriage so I was trying to look really adventurous--something I'm not likely to relive now after 5+ years of marriage).

In their preparation for the day, Mini-E was more than excited to go fishing as well. And if you know Mini-E---she's not just excited, she's Determined. There was NO Way she wasn't going with Daddy and HY. So, being the awesome mother that I am (and frankly very concerned for the safety of my 2 children in the freezing cold) we packed up the car and headed to the nearest frozen lake, which in our case is about 2 hours away.

Not to my surprise HY wasn't pleased to be freezing his tooshy off. It wasn't quite what he expected. But Mini-E was pleased as could be. She didn't complain a bit...until...she fell in the hole that Daddy had drilled out of the ice. Yes, stepped right it in. Not to worry. She was quickly rescued and stripped down to prevent any frozen body parts. Daddy rushed her back to the car. She was screaming bloody murder. When I asked her later why she was screaming she said it was because she was upset about leaving the Hot cocoa and that the fish would eat her toes.

HY and I headed back to car, happy to be warm again. The 3 of us waited in the car while Daddy fished for another hour. Only to catch..nothing. But we did get to see a train! Which made the trip worth it for HY.

I told Farmboy that it looked like Mini-E would be glad to be his ice fishing buddy---in a few more years! When her feet are a bit bigger.

Cutting back

It seems that I've done it again. I've over booked myself with too many good things in life that I rarely have moments of peace and stillness. I think I shall blame it on my WORD this year. (if you recall, it's EXTEND). Which is great, but perhaps I've extended a little too far in the wrong direction.

So, I'm cutting back. And I think I will enjoy more moments like these:

Farmboy suggested that we take the kids fishing at a local pond a few days ago (or maybe it was a week ago). So---we did. I froze my patutie, but the kids thought it was too fun.

I'd like to enjoy more moments like this (minus the freezing weather).
