Memory Lane Monday

(sorry this is so long)

In about 2002: first year I was teaching school---living in Salt Lake with Miss Parker---& helping my brother(R-D) with some of his apartments a very funny thing happened to me.
I had finished teaching school for the day & I was cleaning an apartment for my brother. He had 2 duplexes right next door to each other. I changed in one duplex from my "nice school clothes" to my "grubby work clothes"...and headed over to the other other duplex to begin working.

After a couple of hours, there was a knock at the door. I answered it & found a young woman (maybe a few years younger than me) standing in the doorway. She asked me where her mother & father were. I didn't know. Perhaps they couldn't pay the rent & my brother had had to kick them out. Maybe she didn't know they had moved. I told her that nobody lived here. She became very very upset. Clearly she was NOT ok. I started asking her questions. Where was she from? Was she lost? She said, "I don't know where I'm from...no wait, I'm---I'm from----EARTH"....OOOOOOOOoookay. A little mental.

She soon left & headed down the walk. I chuckled to myself. That was a bit strange. R-D will get a kick out of that one when I tell him about it. And he did...when he returned about 15 mintues later.

I finished my work & headed over to the other duplex to collect my items & go home. Upon entering the room, I could tell something was very very wrong. There were items scattered all over the room. And my clothes were completely gone! GONE! But where?

I headed out the front door & found my brother talking to some policemen who had answered a call for the next door neighbors. He said that the crazy girl had gone to the neighbors house & they were trying to figure out who she was and where she lived. More concerned about my clothes, I asked R-D if he had moved them. NO. Then he paused. "Wait a second, she's wearing your clothes!"....What? R-D had gone into the neighbors house & seen the crazy lady. He thought that she looked awful nice for being homeless/crazy. And her pants were a bit too small.

I approached one of the officers at the neighbor's front door & told him that the lady had stolen my clothes. And when I peeked in the door, sure enough, SHE WAS WEARING MY CLOTHES. A bit confused, the officer said, "Well whose clothes are you wearing?"...you could see where this is going. Needless to say, I found her clothes stuffed in the dumster, gave them to the officer, & in return got my own clothes back. But, I didn't ever wear them again. Okay, I think I did, but I washed and washed and washed them.

Bling & more Bling!

This little miss loves jewlry! She loves to suck on watches, braclets, rings....& when she nurses, she pushes my head so that she can see my diamond earrings. I must say, she's got serious taste. And I know that Farmboy is secretly worried about how much this baby girl is going to cost him. Can we say "high maintanence"?
So, I decided to make her a little BLING! And here's what I came up with:
I made a few (okay, I obviously got carried away) of these bows again. I saw one with a button in the middle & so I was anxious to try. If only I'd had Grandma L's button can. These buttons came from...where else? Hobby Lobby! Here's my favorite:

And my favorite little girl wearing it!

And as if that were enough BLING for one day....here's a bit more...on our "other" little girl.

Yes, this is the HY man wearing high heeled-gold-sparkled shoes. ( I love that he's still carrying his truck & trailer). When Aunt Little S was here on Sunday, he found her shoes & just had to try them on. He loved the clicking noise they made on the tile floor. Mamma was just impressed that he could walk in them. I don't think that Daddy was impressed AT ALL!

Not to worry, HY, I'll always love you! Now click those gold heels together & let's go shopping!

Why God made Moms

Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:
Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of ?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your mom?
1. My Mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms & dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

Happy Mother's Day to all those women made of magic, string, and eyes in the back of their heads!
